The Toronto Star and Globe & Mail both have reports today about Garth Turner being kicked out of the Conservative Caucus and hint at the possibility of Mr Turner being wooed by the Green Party to join them.
The results to such a move would be huge. The Greens would have their first MP in Parliament and thus be past the last remaining obstacle to taking part in the televised leaders debates in the next election.
Garth Turner has his own choices to make. If he does nothing, he will sit as an Independant MP. Or he could look to another Party.
He could look to the NDP, though there is such a wide gap between his views and that of the far left NDP party that this would be a real stretch.
He could look to the Liberals. They are certainly malleable enough in their policies to accept anyone and depending on the next electoin results, Garth could find himself on the government side of the house once again.
Or he could joing the Green Party. There are certainly many ways in which Garth’s views are in line with the Greens, so it would not be a drastic move.
Garth says that above all, he works for the people. He answers to his constituents, to the voter, to the taxpayer, to the Canadian citizen. What better way to serve the interests of all Canadians than to bring the party which is consistent listed as second choice for many Conservative, Liberal AND NDP voters into Parliament?
Garth, it’s your move. Make it a good one.
