Just what the heck are “aspirational targets“?
Isn’t that like saying I “aspire” to retire with $5 million? It’s theoretically possible, but we all know it’s not bloody likely.
Maybe by 2025 I’ll get half way there. Maybe I won’t. The world won’t end if I fail. I’ll just have to live differently.
But wait, Harper-Bush-Howard are talking about climate change! And they “aspire” to do something! Oh, Goody! They wouldn’t agree to the Harper governments proposal for 50% by 2050, so their aspirations are somewhat lower. But no matter, a target is a target is a target, eh?
And after all, like my $5 million target, there are no real consequences if they don’t make it.
Or are there? Let’s just think about this a sec…
