Burning the Future: Coal in America

So… somebody tell me again how we don’t have to worry about where our energy comes from?

This looks to be an incredible movie & I know personally that the information depicted in the trailer is accurate because a close family member of mine has been in the fight against coal, specifically Mountain Top Removal (MTR) for years. Does anyone know if this has been released yet or when it will be? Please spread the word that we HAVE to get rid of our gross dependence on the dangerous and LIMITED resource of coal, and create a future dependent upon safe and renewable resources instead, such as water, wind, & sun resources.

I don’t know, but I will try to find out and post and update. One thing though, It’s hard to call coal a limited resource, since the US claims to have 200 years worth. Yes, that’s limited, but not in relation to the total resource of oil or uranium. Thanks for the comment. –Glenn

There is no hope that the U.S will turn against coal. They are finally coming to grips with both peak oil and the realization they are far too dependant on foreign energy and for them coal is a know quantity with a powerfull history and lobby. While Coal destroys the rural lives of the poor, wind blocks the views of the rich, which do you think they will take into account when planning new projects. In fact the EPA and US environmentalists have become so anal about placement of wind projects that it’s actually easier to expand old coal plants (which by law are not required to add scrubbers if they use the existing plant and grow it) than build new cleaner coal or put up very clean wind.

There is also the issue of trade deficits: In Coal the U.S. has something the Chinese want and since China for the first time ever has become a net importer of coal and the U.S. industry sees big profit coming. The U.S. gov also needs this market for coal to offset their desire for millions of tons of walmart/dollar store trash and help balance the trade imbalance.

I expect the recent tumble of the dollar to force Congresses hand and dole out huge sums to start up liquid coal projects. As the #1 import into the states the devaluation of the greenback is making Oil a lot more expensive, a lot faster than rest of the world is suffering.

There are just too many reasons the U.S. will never stop coal mining. Ugly but true.

Hi. I am the filmmaker of Burning The Future. Please feel feel to reach out to me directly if you have any questions. The film will have a website in a week or so, and I expect it will be on national television in the US in the spring. At that point, DVD’s will be available as well.
All the best,
David
