Whew! A few days into the campaign and there are many exciting things happening in the Green Party campaign, both nationally and right here in Newmarket-Aurora.
- As of this afternoon, it has been officially confirmed that Elizabeth May will appear in the televised leaders debates on October 1 and 2. As this is the result we wanted, and the result we feel is in the best interests of Canadian voters, I won’t spend any more time belabouring the point and will just look forward to the event.
- Locally, our newly designed campaign web site at www.newmarketauroragreens.ca is built and ready to go. We are just waiting on the internet gods to make the domain point in the right direction, or so it has been explained to me. I am assured that it will be live within 24 hours, after which time we will have our links for sign requests, volunteers, donations, memberships, etc. Please accept my apologies for the delay but after all, we are just a group of working class people dedicated to a cause! I will continue to blog here as I have done for the past few years, but it will be linked in to the new site as well.
- Many people have been asking about lawn signs, since they are already seeing Conservative and Liberal signs about town. Rest assured that ours are on order and will be distributed as soon as they arrive, so by all means continue to send us your requests. Better yet, volunteer to help deliver them to others!
- I would like to announce that arrangements have been made that I will be taking a leave from work and beginning to campaign full time beginning Monday September 15. This is something that I was not in the position to do in the 2006 campaign, and it will allow me to dedicate my full time energies to a cause in which I believe very strongly. And I’m hoping that this will encourage others to join the team and volunteer whatever time and skills that you are able.
Above all, let me say this: With Elizabeth now in the televised debates and our first ever opportunity to articulate our vision to the Canadian people, and with the importance of this election in terms of decisions in the next government mandate being absolutely critical for long term climate change impacts, it has never been more important than right now to have Green Party supporters step up to the plate and assist our local campaign.
It is essential that we send a team of Green Party MP’s to Ottawa in order to hold the next government accountable, as the decisions made within the next few years will have extremely serious implications for the lives of our children and grandchildren.
We need your support now more than ever. Please visit www.newmarketauroragreens.ca, and join our team, volunteer your spare time, and donate to the campaign. (Again, the site will be live in the next 24 hours, so please keep checking back!)

Problem Glenn,
my smallest child is protesting that I keep going to a GREEN “Party” But never bring home a loot bag. I sure hope we can fit them into the budget or there will be a coup while I’m out pounding signs.
I have a feeling we’re going to have a great campaign! I am determined to remain positive, a little stressed over Glenn not having an income for 4 weeks, but nevertheless, I am determined. Our marriage survived the last campaign and now we are stronger and more prepared!
Having said that, I feel no shame in asking you wonderful people to please send us some really disgustingly huge donations! In fact, you don’t even need to be from our riding! Our Newmarket-Aurora Electoral District Association will be happy to take your donations, big or small.
You can donate via PayPal through our updated website: http://www.newmarketauroragreens.ca/
Thank you in advance, your support means everything!
Mollie Fisher
PS: Glenn’s links in his blog above do not seem to be working properly right now. If the links don’t work for you, please open a new browser window and cut and paste: http://www.newmarketauroragreens.ca/
Thanks for your support Mollie. I’d never be able to do this without you. The site is up and running now so that donations can be made. We will be adding more content between now and Sunday, and then from then on through the campaign. Sorry for the delay folks! It’s what happens when the entire campaign team, including the candidate, still has to work for a living!
