I picked these up from a comment on an article in the Toronto Star. It’s too bad they couldn’t find a clip from John Howard but that may be because he lost the election.
The quote of the day appears to be “The fundamentals of our economy are strong.”
John McCain, Republican U.S. Presidential Candidate
—————————————————————————
George W. Bush, Republican U.S. President
—————————————————————————
Stephen Harper, Canada’s Republican, er Conservative Prime Minister
—————————————————————————
This might just be a case of ‘One of these things is FAR too much like the others….’

McCain’s funny!
I think he’s referring to the fundamentalists within the economy being strong because the fundamentals actually suck.
Gov debt 70% GDP almost $10 Trillion
All debt, federal, state, personal business and government unfunded liabilities like the unfunded pension plans $63Trillion + or approaching 5x GDP
None of this is new and the U.S. comptroller general David Walker warned of these problems years ago. Many people including a non economist like me have been predicting this exact collapse for a number of years so these claims of Strong Fundamentals are not even naive statements, they are simply lies.
Canada, while lowering its Federal Government debt (until recently) is still raising Provincial, municipal, business, and personal debt at alarming rates. Housing affordability is at a new low and the majority of our trade is tied to a dying empire.
These are not strong fundamentals.
Yes, but it’s important to stroke the electorate. McCain generally followed up his ‘strong fundamentals’ statement with the qualifier that the fundamental of the economy is the American workforce which is the best in the world.
It’s too bad. I think we could actually have a good economy if corporations were not mandated to be amoral. sigh.
Fundamentals of a monetary system.
inflation. More debt = more money = more inflation = dollar value drops.
“Stephen Harper the con$ervative err Republican” Ditto
all these individuals harper, bush, mccain are clearly preaching someone elses bible.
