Ummm – very hard to pick but….I I pick “pomme d’amour” as my first choice. I love the colour, love the water droplets; I can almost taste the flavour of home-grown tomats grown in the hot summer sun! My second choice is “the skiers”. Great “motion” of the water, love the colours and really love the angle. Thanks to everyone for giving me ideas on what and how to take pics!

Hey everyone, don’t forget to look back to http://www.hubbers.ca/blog/2010/07/21/photo-challenge-1-circles/“ rel=”nofollow”>Photo Challenge 1 – Circles, as I’ve added the photographer details to each photo!

Okay…..hard to chose but it must be done.
My first pick is Summer Sunset
and my second pick is summertime on the farm.
Love the perfect silhouette of the grass in summer sunset. The colours are beautiful and the picture is crisp.
Summertime on the farm…well I can just smell the hay.
Great pictures everyone!

Wow! Decisions, decisions … I am having a hard time choosing.

My first choice is Summer Sunset. I love the colours and the silhouette effect. Beautiful! I am curious if this is the full photo or if it is zoomed and cropped?

My second choice is Pomme D’amour. Colour and detail are great. Love the water droplets! I am also curious here if that is the photographer’s hand or an assistant? Very difficult photo to take with one hand! :-)

A couple of additional comments: I love the angle that Echinacea was taken at … nicely done! And I like Taste of Summer but I am wondering if that is the only shot you took? Did you try lowering the angle, or would that lose the detail of the contents in the basket?

Nice pics everyone!

Sorry to those who have already voted, but I had to make a late addition with Summer ‘Air’. Just post another comment if this changes your votes.

My First choice would be Summer Sunset, I love the colours and the shadows

And my runner up would be Summer Swim, I love the contrast between the dark blue of the water and the pool noodles.

Love summertime on the farm. The contract of colours is beautiful and I can almost imagine the heat & smell of the hay. It is a very clear picture.

Again, so hard to choose, but here goes…

1- Miss Kitty’s Virginia Summer
Hey, it’s a gorgeous kitty finding some shade on what looks like a hot summer day… with a beer! What else can I ask for?
2- Summertime-on-the-Farm
I think the composition could have been a little better (not sure if that was physically possible) but I can’t deny that I feel the summer heat from this pic!

Way to go everyone!

I had a much harder time with this choice than the last, as there are a number of excellent pics! But choose I must…

My first choice is “pomme d’amour”. Excellent composition and the colour pops right of my screen. This screams summer to me, and makes me look forward even more to the tomatoes in the backyard which aren’t yet ripe. I could definately see this one being suitable for iStockPhoto.com

Second choice is “Summer Air”. With a few tweaks to improve the colour and sharpness, this one also could be a stock photo, with the proper model releases, of course. It might be better if the sky was blue with defined clouds instead of overcast, but sometimes you have to work with what you’ve got.

My comments on a few of the others…

Miss Kitty’s Virginia Summer: I loved the composition and you can just feel the heat of the day. I’d suggest punching the colour a bit.

Summer Sunset: I love this photo and it might, IMHO, be technically the most impressive. The only reason it’s not my #1 is that it doesn’t necessarily say Summer to me.

Echinacea really strikes me because of the unique angle/composition. I’d like to know if there was an angle to eliminate the trees and have more open sky behind the flowers?

The fresh taste of summer is a great idea which I think would be better with more contrast between the basket and harvest versus the surrounding garden. The subject needs to stand out more, in my opinion.

Summertime-on-the-Farm is excellent for colour and definately fits the Summer theme. I’d suggest moving a bit so there’s more fence and less open field on the right, and so the tree is not centered between the wagons. Also, is there a greenish tint to the sky, or is my monitor in need of calibration?

Backsplash peaked my curiousity. Were you on something solid or in another boat? If possible, I think this could be improved by getting closer to the kayak and using a wider angle lens. Also, I’d punch the colour up a bit.

Great work, everyone! Hopefully by the weekend we’ll have enough voting so that I can post the photographer names and we can discuss these a bit. And I also wanted to ask whether you like the anonymous pics or should I just add the photographer names in from the start?

1) Summertime on the farm
2) Echinacea

My first choice is Summertime on the Farm. Primarily for the feeling it generates for me. This June, we collected over 150 square bales from the field and transported them to our barn. Looking at this photo, I recall the itchy perspiration, and the beautiful sweet smell of fresh cut grass. And I KNOW of the feeling of accomplishment (and relief) knowing that the barn is full of feed for the critters for the winter ahead.

My second choice is Pomme d’amour. It made my eyes pop and my mouth water.

My first choice is Summertime on the Farm, to me, it just screams summer in Ontario. I love the colours – it reminds me of something out of a children’s storybook.

Second choice – Summer Swim. Again, love the colour contrast and the composition.

Great photos all around, so interesting to see what everyone comes up with!

My first choice is summer sunset.
Have been to Manitoulin island and had great memories of summer vacation there. And the sunsets are beautiful.

My second choice is pomme d’amour.
Love the contrast of colors.

It was however a very hard choice lots of good photos from everyone.

AngieAugust 11, 2010 - 4:34 pm

I really like 1. Pomme D’amour and 2. Summer Sunset.

AmandaAugust 12, 2010 - 12:59 pm

1) Pomme D’Amour
2) Summer Sunset

This was a difficult decision (particularly because I have soft spot for the Island). Both are terrific but I love the colours in Pomme D’Amour.

(sorry this is late Glenn)

Congratulations Jeannie! :o )

Thanks Kate!

Hey Glenn, I like your new rule about closing the voting in a week. It will perhaps give us the opportunity to comment more!

I wanted to add a kudos to everyone who took the pictures of moving objects. So hard to do, especially when you realize you must have been moving yourself!

And I wanted to explain Summertime a little further. I get the comments about perhaps changing the angle a little to add more fence or change the location of the tree, but it would have been quite difficult if not impossible to do. What you cannot see in the picture was a barn beside the fence and a half ton truck sitting there too. It just didn’t make as nice of a shot to include those. And to have gone to the right to change the angle, I would have had to cross through poison ivy and into their field. With a thunderstorm rapidly moving in behind me, I didn’t have time to ask for permission or forgiveness and I didn’t want to be charged with trepassing or stalking! lol!

It was hot, hot, hot … hazy and humid and the weather was changing which I think added to the interesting colours!

Nice work everyone!

Glenn HubbersAugust 19, 2010 - 3:26 am

For my part it was the lake that was moving. I was in the boat and the skiers were a fixed distance from me, for obvious difference. This allowed me to use focus lock and fire off a bunch of shots. I just had to take care to not get the camera wet and get the shot before one of them fell, which took multiple attempts!
