Mljet

Mljet is one of the ports in Croatia without a bank machine, and few restaurants from which to choose.  The big attraction seems to be the National Park with an old Monastery, so we did the tour.  This started out something like our navigating in Spain and Portugal: missing the turn off due to lack of adequate signage.

There are some inland lakes on this island, and they have built a small channel between the two which flows with a rather strong current due to the tides.  These aren’t lakes, actually, as they are connected to the sea at the far end by a small channel and they are salt water, although they seem to be lower salt levels than the surrounding Adriatic.  I’m wondering if there are any unique species that have evolved here as a result?

We had a little swim through the channel while waiting for the ferry boat to the Monastery, which is on a island within the larger lake.

Dinner was a BBQ on board the Liberty.
