Full Circle

We’ve come full circle back to Dubrovnik (for the first time), except this time we are sleeping in our cabin on the boat.  Apparently our ticket included a walking tour of the old city, so we met the rest of our fellow passengers at the appointed hour at Pile Gate, the north entrance through the city wall.

I think these walking tours vary according to the whims of the tour guide.  Multiple tours would reveal completely different things.  Our tour guide seems quite knowledgeable about religion, churches, and particularly the difference between the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches, so much of our tour centred around this aspect.

We ventured into some back streets looking for dinner with Gary and Jayne, our new friends from the boat, to a place where it is difficult to tell where one restaurant ends and the next begins, except for the menu on the table and the helpful staff who are always there to encourage you to sit at their establishment.  Exceptional food, yet again.

After dinner we heard the sound of singing and while Gary and I were settling the bill the girls went to check it out.  A group of men were sitting on the steps around the corner outside of an Irish pub and singing traditional Croatian music.  No instruments were needed with these voices, and the acoustics in these narrow alleyways was exceptional.  Apparently they come here most Mondays to practice while enjoying a few pints and entertaining the tourists.
