I’m spending a lot of my time in Ottawa these days, working for the city on the Light Rail Transit system they’re building between now and 2009. It’s a nice Green project to sink my teeth into and I fully applaud the City of Ottawa for proceeding with it despite certain members of the business community voicing concerns.
Generally the argument goes that what with all the buses and now the trains in the downtown core, there won’t be anymore cars, there won’t be anymore parking, there won’t be anymore people.
But with energy costs rising already, and the inevitable skyrocketing prices as the results of Peak Oil take their toll, these business owners will be glad for the ability of the citizens of Ottawa to get downtown.
I wonder if they will remember this time down the road, and thank the politicians for their perseverence?
Somehow I doubt it…
