And away we go …

The Liberal government was defeated in a non-confidence vote last night, setting events into motion for an election call and a vote on January 23, 2006. The Green Party did not want an election over the holidays, and were content to wait for Paul Martins scheduled call after the Gomery report. But still, the Green Party is more ready than ever to launch into the campaign and looks forward to many more opportunities to introduce Canadians to our platform.

Since April of 2005, when it last appreared that we were headed into an election until Belinda crossed the floor, we have formed the Newmarket-Aurora Federal Green Party Association, were present at community events like the Aurora Street Festival and the Windfall Ecology Festival at Fairy Lake, hosted a couple of movie nights with a documentary about peak oil, hosted summer BBQ’s, and held a nomination contest for a candidate.

We are here. We are here to stay. And we will be as vocal as we can be to get media coverage and get our message out to Canadian voters.

Our district association in Newmarket-Aurora is working hard to prepare, and we will be out there in the community talking to voters, helping people understand our full party platform, and asking for support.

We have policies that make sense.

We have candidates in 308 ridings across the country.

Now all we need is you.

Please join us on December 9, 2006 from 6:00 to 10:00 at The Crow’s Nest in Newmarket for the campaign kickoff,
or Saturday mornings throughout the campaign at Zavida coffee house on Bayview from 10:00 to 12:00

We hope to see you there!
