So much for the Liberals and their green scarves…

Garth Turner, MP for HaltonIt’s been bothering me, the way that some people have been sucked in to the idea that the Liberal’s have had some environmental awakening. Some have even suggested, “Why vote Green if the Liberals are adopting all your policies?”

Well here, right the from the mouth of Garth Turner, one of the most visible MP’s on the Liberal Team, we have proof positive that the Liberal Party has NOT turned Green, but is instead the same old party taking on the issues that concern Canadians as a matter of self-serving convenience. Yes, I know that higher gas prices are hard on middle and lower income Canadians. And the Green Party wants to help those Canadians by improving other costs to account for higher energy costs.

What the Green Party will NOT do is continue to subsidize oil & gas, keep energy prices artificially low, and externalize the environmental and health costs associated with energy production.

What the Green Party will NOT do is respond to the real financial hardships of Canadians by extending the artificial pricing that will make adjustment more difficult later.

The Green Party will not choose short term relief at the expense of added long term pain.
But it seems that the Liberals will.

So much for their green scarves.

I’m pleased to have found this blog via Garth’s. Here’s hoping that some day soon, Garth is not the only MP allowing comments on his blog.

Yes, here’s hoping.  As I’ve stated on this blog before, I do not always agree with Garth on point of policy, but I do appreciate his relationship with his constituents and what he is doing for democracy by hosting his blog.  I do have every intention of behaving similarly should I be successful in gaining a seat. –Glenn

I thought it was rather fishy that no one else was commenting. Please consider opening up your posts for comments. I get that you understand sustainability, but Garth understands democracy.

I intend to do so, and my goal is to emulate what Garth is doing.  Unfortunately I am having a spam problem right now and am in the midst of changing service providers for just that reason.  If I opened up to comments without being able to moderate them, well, let’s just say that people would think my site was a front for online drugs and schemes to enlarge certain body parts.

As to why no one else is commenting?  Well, what can I say.  1) I’m a Green, which means that certain folks have no interest. 2) I am not a sitting MP as Garth is, but a relatively unknown nominated candidate.  3) It takes time to build such momentum.

If you like my site, want to discuss points of policy or comment on my blog posts, please bring on the comments and tell your colleagues so that I can start increasing that interest.  I’d be most pleased to get feedback.
