From my perch on the 13th floor at University Ave & Richmond Street, I was able to get a good view of today’s taxi drivers protest. Apparently they are upset over the law that prevents them from picking up fares at Pearson International Airport.
Without knowing more about the issue (I concede that there may be another side to the story) it would seem to me on first blush that whichever level of government has such a law in place can make no claim to being “green” or concerned about climate change.
We need our laws to not only allow, but encourage taxi’s to use the most efficient model cars and to have fares as often as possible in order to cut down on emissions from just the drivers getting around town. Having those drivers leave Pearson without a fare seems a pretty stupid.

That policy has always been baloney — why have people (and cab drivers) been putting up with such a restriction on free market activities.
In addition, so many taxis sit idle throughout the day, and those people could be making money instead if they weren’t barred from going to the airport.
