Vacation Goals

Do you take vacation with goals for what you want to accomplish? During our recent vacation (camping at Providence Bay, Manitoulin Island) I had very simple goals.  Forget about work for a while, read a few books, and play with my camera.  And even though the weather didn’t exactly cooperate (rain plus single digit temps at night) I managed to accomplish these.

I came home with a lot of pics, most of which were crap as I was just practising, but there were a few good ones among the chaff.  I’ve discovered that my biggest learning curve might actually not be behind the camera, but the computer and software, the modern photographers “development” process.  I’m using Aperture 3 so far as Photoshop scares the heck out of me.  I’ve also tried playing with multiple exposure and PhotoMatix.  (If anyone has advice about whether I’m better to buy PhotoMatix Pro or the Aperture Plugin, please contact me!)

I’ll be posting a bunch of these as I get them cleaned up and figure out how to set up a Flickr (or equivalent) photostream account, which is an intimidating process in itself.  Meanwhile, here a couple of samples.  I hope you enjoy them.

Both are beautiful!
Nice job capturing a bird in flight, that’s quite a challenge.
The beaver house is so vibrant too! Whatever made you stop to find that little gem? ;o)
Keep snappin’!

Thanks! I was pretty happy with the Sea Gull shot, considering full zoom and hand held I was not expecting much.

As for the beaver dam, yes, I have to give Mollie credit for making me stop the car. This scene was off of a side road to a B&B we stayed in south of Sudbury and Mollie had pointed it out the night before. When we stopped the car to get this photo, I admit that I was just humouring her. And then it turned out to be an excellent shot. I guess I need to listen to her more often! LOL!
